About
Words, etc.
Al et al is the business name, brand name, pen name of freelance copywriter, occasional producer and would-be-wanna-be-artist, Alan James.
Al has worked freelance, trading as Al et al, since the early 90s. Prior to this, his background was in radio and advertising creative and production.
These days, as a hired hack, Al writes stuff; puts words to things: web, digital, corp lit, interpretive, editorial, ad and promo stuff. Anything really. You can read a bunch of samples in the copy section.
Al is also an occasional contributor to ABC Radio. His programs typically explore the stuff we do for a living, and the places we inhabit and call home. You can listen to some of these in the radio section.
And Al also makes this thing called the “Love Sign”—a little art-whim that has taken on a life all of its own, and spawned other art-sign things. You can see these labours of love in Signs of life.
Al is based on the Sunshine Coast, though he spends most of his time on the Bruce Highway travelling to and from Brisbane. For the past five years, he has been researching/writing a book about the motorways and roadworks of south-east Queensland, entitled “Expect Delays”. He also regularly works in several other places within a 2000 km radius of the Sunshine Coast—such as Melbourne, Townsville and Birdsville—which are much easier to get to than Brisbane.
Al likes taking photos of roadsigns. He’s severely allergic to capsicum. It’s a stupid vegetable anyway.
